HIST 211: Topics in History (3 credits)
Investigate history on location! Visit sites where Irish uprisings and rebellions against British rule occurred including castles, battlefields, and other sites where historic conflicts took place. Students will focus on historical reasoning and research, investigate the context of historical events with an emphasis on causation as well as the influence of culture on various conflicts. Participants will engage with texts, artifacts, and locations to enhance their understanding of the significance and consequences of these conflicts. The travel course will begin in Dublin and pass through the Irish countryside en route to Belfast.
Fulfills SEE Humanities (HUM) requirement.
Course Prerequisites: ENG 152
or equivalent

Other Eligibility Requirements: Students must be at least 18 years old, and in good academic, disciplinary, and financial standing with the University. Non-SU students are welcome to participate, please see the Travel Course Eligibility Guidelines for Non-SU Students.

Participants will stay in budget hotels or student accommodations. 

Daily breakfast is provided in the accommodations, as well as a Welcome meal.



HIST 211: Risings and Rebellions in Ireland
Cost: $4,060 + summer tuition
Includes roundtrip international airfare (from BWI-Baltimore), intercity transport, Dublin airport transfers, housing, some meals, excursions and cultural activities as listed in itinerary, tips for included activities, international health/evacuation insurance, excursion transportation, and the International & Off-Campus Study administrative fee.

Additional costs include academic credit ($450/credit), any meals not listed as included on itinerary, U.S. airport transfers to/from BWI-Baltimore, passport (if don't already have), and personal expenses.


Application requires $250 non-refundable deposit by February 18, 2019. Remainder of cost is due by Summer 2019 payment deadline at the end of April 2019.

Stevenson University reserves the right to make any necessary changes, including cost adjustments, in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.

Upon submitting application and deposit, participants are considered committed and responsible for the full cost of the travel course should they be accepted. Should a participant wish to withdraw their application for any reason after acceptance, only recoverable expenses may be refunded (which vary according to date of withdrawal). Stevenson University withdrawal and drop/add deadlines do not apply.
